Grenade Blast Injures Two in Maguindanao Sur Town

A grenade explosion in Barangay Poblacion Mother, Maguindanao del Sur, left two people wounded on Saturday, May 10. Montaser Paglas Mamaluba, a 40-year-old merchant, and a 13-year-old girl were among the casualties, suffering from shrapnel wounds sustained in the attack. Because the explosion happened while many residents were still sleeping, the impact on the community was particularly severe.

The grenade pierced through and landed on the roof of Mamaluba’s house which had a dramatic impact on everyone inside. Both victims are undergoing medical treatment at the Maguindanao provincial hospital in Datu Hofer, Maguindanao del Sur. Health officials did not immediately make public what their conditions were.

Lt. Col. Jopy Ventura, the spokesperson for the Bangsamoro regional police, said that the blast occurred only meters away from a gas station. This shocking event happened right in front of city hall, raising serious doubts about public safety. The blast site has been characterized as a crowded bazaar, increasing fears that there could be more injuries and fatalities.

The political climate in Shariff Aguak town has become more complicated. At least two soldiers were wounded in a series of encounters that erupted in the village of Kuloy and in Barangay Poblacion Mother. As the cycle of violence continues, local leaders are forced to reevaluate how and in what ways to secure communities so that all citizens can live safely. Oping Ampatuan is a member of the Shariff Aguak town council. He is aggressively dealing with the safety issues that these crashes have highlighted.

As it stands, the community is heartbroken and shaken. Authorities are currently investigating the grenade explosion and its effects on security within the affected area. Investigators referred to the two violent incidents in Barangay Poblacion Mother and Kuloy as connected. They hope to glue it all together into a clear picture of how things went so terribly wrong.
