Actress Hayley Woo, aged 32, faced unexpected challenges during the filming of "Baby Hero" in Thailand when she contracted Covid-19. The actress, who was in the midst of preparing for an action scene, found herself quarantined and unable to participate. Despite undergoing rigorous training with a professional Thai stunt crew—her first experience with stunt training—Woo had to be written out of the sole action scene she was set to perform. This setback occurred just two days before the scheduled shoot when she was sent to a local hospital due to her symptoms.
Initially, Woo mistook her Covid-19 symptoms for heatiness, as the cast and crew had been enduring a month's filming in sweltering 43-degree Celsius heat. Her battle with the virus lasted five days, during which she relied on the warmth and support of her family and cast members to cope with the situation.
"I was stuck in quarantine, and being overseas made me even more homesick." – Hayley
Woo managed to keep her spirits up by maintaining regular contact with her family. Video calls with her twin sister Jayley and her two-year-old niece Jan played a significant role in uplifting her mood. The young niece's cheerful demeanor provided much-needed comfort during this challenging period.
Her co-stars, including Ya Hui, showed immense support during her isolation.
"Ya Hui really looked after me, always asking if I'd eaten my meals and if there was anything she could do for me." – Hayley
Woo expressed gratitude towards her fellow actors, particularly Thai actor Vithaya 'Pipu' Pansringarm, who frequently checked in on her well-being.
"I also really appreciate [Thai actor Vithaya 'Pipu' Pansringarm] and the others. They'd always text me and tell me, 'Hey, don't be depressed, don't be sad! We're here for you.'" – Hayley
Despite being in a difficult situation, Woo felt fortunate for the support she received from both her family and the film's cast.
