In fact, HelloFresh just became Rivian’s first major customer outside of Amazon, announcing that it will add 70 of Rivian’s all-electric commercial vans to its fleet. Notable was Rivian’s termination of its exclusivity deal with Amazon in November 2023. This complementary transaction deepens the electric vehicle maker’s customer base and furthers its commercial ambitions.
Amazon, which is one of Rivian’s largest investors, had claimed an exclusive deal to buy their commercial vans. The tech behemoth ordered 100,000 of Rivian’s vehicles as part of its pledge to go green and cut its climate footprint. In a further, and perhaps surprising to some, show of support, Amazon led a $700 million investment round in Rivian, cementing their partnership. While this exclusivity deal helped get them started, Rivian has since concentrated on establishing a wider customer base.
HelloFresh’s choice to bring in Rivian’s electric vans is a smart business move and a step forward given its commitment to sustainability. The company expects its new fleet to save at least 20,000 gallons of gasoline annually. Most importantly, this transition to electric vehicles clearly illustrates environmental benefits. The addition of these 70 vans represents nearly a quarter of HelloFresh’s total fleet, underscoring their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.
Rivian has two different sizes of commercial vans to accommodate the needs of multi-use businesses. After terminating its sole source supply agreement with Amazon, Rivian has enjoyed a one-year hiatus. At the same time, the firm prepped its commercial fleet line to woo a greater variety of consumers. We developed our essential service and digital infrastructure.
