Hugging Face recently introduced the Open Computer Agent. This freely available, cloud-hosted artificial intelligence tool allows users to interact with a customizable virtual computing environment. On May 6, 2025, we launched this new hub for creativity and ideas. Online and free of charge, the program is designed to maximize user experiences with the latest in AI innovation.
Our Open Computer Agent runs on a headless Linux Virtual Machine. It is preloaded with a variety of applications, chief among them the wide-open web Mozilla Firefox web browser. This configuration allows users to quickly complete complex tasks inside the AI workspace. Due to high demand, users may experience a wait list. Anticipate hold times ranging from a few seconds to several minutes as you enter the digital queue to connect with an agent.
A dedicated team at Hugging Face, known for its advancements in AI and machine learning, developed the Open Computer Agent. Aymeric Roucher, a member of the agents team, elaborated on the capabilities of the vision models utilized within this platform. He noted that as these models evolve, they can support increasingly complex workflows, making the AI agent more effective for users.
“As vision models become more capable, they become able to power complex agentic workflows,” – Aymeric Roucher
Another real highlight of the Open Computer Agent is its use of the fantastic Qwen-VL models. These models are manufactured addressable with integrated grounding capability. The AI is able to identify which objects are in an image by their coordinates. This makes for a really impressive user interaction experience. Hugging Face’s team was not out to build the most advanced computer-using agent. Nonetheless, their work on the Open Computer Agent reflects a meaningful commitment to improving accessibility and overall usability in AI tools.
Users can visit the Hugging Face website to experiment with the Open Computer Agent and explore its capabilities for themselves. The platform is a major leap forward in democratizing this advanced AI technology, and we’re excited about opening it up to even more users.
