Sophia Loren, the legendary Italian actress known for her remarkable contributions to cinema, is currently recovering after suffering multiple fractures from a serious fall in her Swiss home. The 89-year-old actress marked her birthday just last week. Unfortunately, she fell at home and suffered multiple fractures to her hip and a compound fracture of her femur.
On Sunday, September 24, Loren was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery. Her agent, Andrea Giusti, said the operation “could not have gone better.” Today, they’re hoping for her return to health. Though even this painful loss can’t silence Loren, she has proven herself an unstoppable force, a true cinematic treasure.
Loren has lived in a serene villa near Lake Geneva for decades, where she has enjoyed a relatively quiet life. This year, she was set to open her fourth eponymous restaurant in Bari, Italy on Tuesday. Unfortunately, because of her continued recovery after surgery, she won’t be at the opening of the new location.
Her illustrious career has lasted more than six decades. She was the first foreign-language actor to win an Academy Award for her role in the 1961 movie *Two Women*, making history in the process. Her impressive accolades include five Golden Globe Awards and a Grammy for her spoken word children’s book, Peter and the Wolf. On this project, she collaborated with heavyweights. Among them were former U.S. president Bill Clinton and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
Just this month, Loren stole the scene at a fashion show in Venice. She dazzled as she walked the arm of fashion legend Giorgio Armani on the occasion of the city’s annual film festival. This public appearance highlighted her enduring presence in the entertainment industry and her ability to captivate audiences even at an advanced age.
Loren is planning to open a branch of his innovative restaurant in Bari. She already has three Sophia Loren Restaurants at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, Florence, and Milan, reinforcing her power in the kitchen as well as in front of the camera.
