Indonesia Set to Launch Bilingual Chatbot in Digital Transformation Drive

Indonesia is on the brink of unveiling a new AI-powered chatbot capable of conversing in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. This initiative forms part of the nation's ambitious digital transformation strategy, aimed at enhancing efficiency across various sectors. The chatbot is scheduled to be presented to President Prabowo Subianto early next month, marking a significant milestone in Indonesia's technological advancements.

On Tuesday, Luhut Pandjaitan, a senior aide to President Subianto, made the announcement at the Indonesia Economic Summit in Jakarta. While details about the developers remain under wraps, Pandjaitan compared the upcoming chatbot to OpenAI's renowned ChatGPT.

“This sort of digital transformation is set to improve Indonesia’s efficiency,” – Luhut Pandjaitan

The chatbot's development cost remains undisclosed; however, Pandjaitan assured attendees that it was "not costly." This statement comes amidst comparisons with China's DeepSeek, which recently launched its R1 chatbot. DeepSeek claims to match the capabilities of ChatGPT at a fraction of the investment, setting a competitive benchmark.

Despite not revealing the financial specifics, the Indonesian government hopes this chatbot will spearhead digital transformation efforts nationwide. The government envisions improved operational efficiencies and enhanced service delivery through such technological integrations.
