Instacart Announces Leadership Change with Chris Rogers as New CEO

>Fidji Simo is leaving her position as Chief Executive Officer of Instacart, setting in motion a leadership transition as profound as the company’s current fortunes. Starting August 15th, Mr. Chris Rogers assumes command of the company. He’ll have a strong foundation to build upon, as it was laid during Simo’s tenure as leader. Simo, who has ferried Instacart to a public offering since taking the reins in 2021, will be joining OpenAI as CEO of Application.

Fidji Simo notified employees of her decision to step down in a letter sent a few weeks prior to the announcement. She will remain as Chair of the Board at Instacart. During the transition period, she said she looks forward to working with Rogers—and his immense experience—to ensure a smooth transition of her new responsibilities.

He told us, “We selected Chris because the company requires an executive with a fundamental understanding of our partners, broad operational expertise and the ability to engage an organization around our vision.

Faulkner, who joined U.S. EIA nearly four years ago, has played a critical role in shaping the company’s strategy and operations. His knowledge of the company’s mission and culture will help guide Instacart as it starts a new chapter. Rogers articulated his enthusiasm for the new role. As he said, “Instacart sits at the center of how people shop, eat and care for their families — and that’s always been what inspires me most about our mission.”

Aisha Malik is establishing her presence in the tech journalism landscape. Malik has an honours bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree in journalism from Western University. He’s now a consumer news reporter at TechCrunch. She came to TechCrunch in 2021 after covering telecom for MobileSyrup.

While Instacart’s upcoming changes are specific to that company, they reflect a broader move across the tech industry. Shifts in the executive suite often mean new strategic priorities. Simo’s new role will be an important one at OpenAI. At the same time, Rogers’ leadership will be key as Instacart becomes the catalyst for innovation within the fiercely competitive grocery delivery space.
