Inzaghi Acknowledges Setbacks but Stresses Inter’s Progress Ahead of Crucial Match

Simone Inzaghi, the head coach of Inter Milan, speaking to reporters during a media day on Tuesday. He looked back on the team’s past woes and focused on improvements achieved since his ascension to the top job in 2021. Inzaghi admitted that it had not been an ideal last week. Do not let that obscure the remarkable progress made over the past four years, he cautioned.

After a tough week for Inter, Inzaghi’s positive future outlook bodes well for the coming months. He stated, “We come from a bad week, but we can do and we have to do better.” This feeling is indicative of his desire to raise the level of this team as they approach one of their biggest matches.

Injury Update on Pavard and Team Preparations

Inzaghi gave an update on Benjamin Pavard’s fitness after he picked up an injury in their last game against Roma. Pavard exited the game after only 15 minutes due to an ankle injury. He’s since second leg against Bayern Munich since.

“We haven’t seen him since (the second leg against) Bayern Munich. He did a good job and gave good signals but I have to evaluate tomorrow morning and I’ll talk to him again.” – Simone Inzaghi

Inzaghi added that other than Pavard, all players are fit to pick from. He pointed to the fact that newcomer Marcus Thuram arrived just yesterday, joining his first practice with the team. This is a great start with the upward mobility of the squad depth.

“Thuram had his first training session today with the team.” – Simone Inzaghi

That availability will be important as Inter prepares to face off with a potential CCL heavyweight, in a must-win matchup.

Facing a Strong Opponent

As Inter prepares for their next match, Inzaghi can’t mask his enthusiasm. He thinks they’re going up against “maybe the best team in the world.” He acknowledged their offensive prowess, stating, “We’re excited about the game we’re going to play tomorrow against probably the best team in the world, the most offensive, the team that scores the most goals.”

Inzaghi underlined how important technical accuracy and collective effort would be required to beat such a high-quality opponent. He noted, “We need to have the ability to play with sacrifice if we have to. We will have to be very clean technically. We need a lot of components to beat such a strong opponent…”

Despite showing respect for the opponent’s great history and accomplishments, Inzaghi was still confidently defiant. He remarked, “They have incredible numbers and have won two titles, competing for two more. We have maximum respect, but no fear… We want to play a semi-final like a real Inter tomorrow.”
