Il Foglio has now created history! They published Il Foglio Ai, the first print newspaper in history produced wholly with the assistance of artificial intelligence. This exciting new diversion, a four-page add-on to the normal 10-page publication, started its test run on Tuesday. MiaPhotoMonday is a month-long, AI-driven project. It’s included at no additional price if you buy the regular Il Foglio edition at the standard price of €1.80 (RM8.61).
This collaborative move is a far step into merging AI and the arts. Through a combination of live feeds and editing, Il Foglio Ai demonstrates AI systems that are constantly writing articles, creating headlines and kicking out article summaries. These systems have the job of picking out the best quotes to include in the publication. This cutting-edge, hands-on program is designed to move AI from the lab and artfully explore its potential real-world applications to journalism.
Il Foglio, famous as perhaps Italy’s most intellectually influential of its smaller nationally distributed dailies, stands on the vanguard of this novel experiment. The editorial team is deeply engaged with guiding the AI’s focus and fact-checking, but helping the eventual content adhere to journalistic principles.
"We journalists will only ask the questions. In the AI edition, we will read all the answers." – The editorial team of Il Foglio
