Jackson Wang, a 30-year-old pop sensation from Hong Kong, continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his dynamic contributions to the entertainment industry. Known for his initial rise to fame as a member of the K-pop boy group Got7, Wang has made significant strides in his career, both on and off stage. Recently, he has been reflecting on his life, fame, and happiness as he manages multiple creative ventures and personal challenges.
Wang made his showbiz debut with Got7, a group that includes talented members Jinyoung, BamBam, Mark, Youngjae, Yugyeom, and Jay B. Since then, he has established himself as a multifaceted artist and entrepreneur. In 2017, he founded Team Wang Records, a music production company that allows him to work behind the scenes in the industry he loves. By 2020, he expanded his entrepreneurial pursuits by co-founding Team Wang Design, a high-fashion streetwear brand where he serves as the creative director. These endeavors demonstrate his passion for innovation and creativity beyond performing.
Despite his success, Wang faced a health scare on January 26 when he was hospitalized due to sudden chest pains while preparing for a performance. This incident came shortly after Got7 released their new album, "Winter Heptagon," on January 20. His dedication to his craft remains unwavering as he continues to promote his latest album, "Magic Man," with the music video for his single "High Alone" released on February 13. "Magic Man 2," a continuation of the album series, is a reflection of Wang's inner self, represented through the character Magic Man.
"I have accepted it… I would be grateful if I'm still known at 40 though I won't chase after it," Wang said as he contemplated his future in the entertainment world.
Wang's recent one-year break from the limelight offered him an opportunity to reflect on his personal growth and artistic journey. During this period, he released "Under The Castle," a comic book featuring characters Pumpkie and Spookie. This project exemplifies his ability to explore diverse creative outlets while maintaining a connection with his audience.
"It doesn't matter if you know me or not. But that also depends on what I'm working on at that point in time," Wang explained, highlighting the transient nature of fame.
As Wang continues to evolve as an artist, he embraces working behind the scenes as it reduces stereotypes about him and offers him greater control over his artistic expression. This perspective enables him to focus on meaningful projects without the pressure of public perception.
"That's why I believe popularity is like foam, they are not solid and are fleeting," said Wang, expressing his understanding of the ephemeral nature of celebrity status.
His introspective journey has led him to acknowledge changes in his happiness over time.
"As I grew older, I realised that I am not as happy as I used to be," Wang shared candidly.
Nevertheless, he maintains a balanced view on life’s imperfections.
"There isn't anything to be happy or unhappy about… I just experienced more and came to an understanding that things may not be as perfect as I thought, but it's not as bad either," he reflected.
