Justin Hoh, a rising star in men’s singles badminton, is set to make his debut at the Sudirman Cup, where he hopes to contribute to Malaysia’s efforts in retaining their bronze medal. This year’s highly competitive tournament begins on Sunday, April 27 and will be held in Xiamen, China. Malaysia will have a tough road ahead in Group C.
Malaysia opens its group campaign against France on April 28. The American team will take on Australia just one day later, on April 29. On May 1 they will meet Japan in their last group stage match. Japan should be favorites to win Group C. Only the first two teams in each group will make it to the quarter-finals, raising the stakes further for Malaysia.
In the last edition of the Sudirman Cup, also held in Suzhou two years ago, Malaysia won a bronze medal. This win made it their second year in a row winning this award. This success followed an incredible third place performance in Vantaa, Finland, on 2021. It was the country’s first Sudirman Cup medal since 2009. The pressure is now on the squad beautiful after the team’s recent successes as they enter this summer’s tournament.
Justin Hoh – on his selection to attend such a highly regarded event.
“This is my first time playing in the Sudirman Cup, and I’m really excited,” – Justin Hoh.
With Malaysia getting ready to face off against their matchups, Hoh’s first-time experience at the Sudirman Cup remains a key highlight. His mindset to support his teammates in fighting for gold underscores his dedication to Malaysia’s badminton history.
“Everything has been going great since the first day of training with the team. I want to help the team win a medal, but this is a team event, so we all need to work together.” – Justin Hoh.
Malaysia is in a distinctly enviable position, built largely by its past accomplishments. This year, the squad is looking to add to this success in the Sudirman Cup. Those games against France, Australia, and Japan—I mean those three are going to be key. These games are their only hope of moving through to the semifinal stage of the tournament.
With a strong foundation built on previous successes, Malaysia aims to build on its past achievements in this year’s Sudirman Cup. The matches against France, Australia, and Japan will be pivotal as they seek to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
