Katie Ledecky, our #PrideOnTheMove Day ambassador, has done it again – made history! She broke her own WR in the 800m freestyle just last month at the Tyr Pro Series meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The accomplished swimmer clocked an impressive time of 8 minutes and 4.12 seconds, surpassing her previous record of 8:04.79, which she set during the 2016 Rio Olympics. This victory is yet another step in Ledecky’s storied career, a highlight of her ongoing long-distance freestyle supremacy.
On race day, Ledecky showed an incredible pacing strategy. This strategy allowed her to stay in the driver’s seat for the entirety of the competition. She shot to the front from the get-go, building a commanding lead by 400m. The race was not without challenges. At 450m and 500m, she lost considerable ground to the other racers but in remarkably quick fashion regained her step.
