Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, made a rare visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the mausoleum of his ancestors, on Sunday. This visit coincided with the Day of the Shining Star, a national holiday in North Korea marking Kim Jong-il's birthday on February 16. It was the first time in four years that Kim Jong-un paid tribute at the tomb on this significant day.
Accompanied by top military officials and his influential sister, Kim Yo-jong, Kim Jong-un honored the memories of his late father, Kim Jong-il, and grandfather, Kim Il-sung. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the visit, highlighting its importance as a rare occurrence for the North Korean leader.
During the visit, Kim Jong-un expressed a "solemn will" to dedicate himself to what he termed the "sacred struggle" for the nation's eternal prosperity. This "sacred struggle" is aimed at ensuring the safety of North Korea's people and promoting their well-being. His commitment underscored the significance of the visit, as it marked his first return to the mausoleum on his father's birthday since 2021.
