Dejan Kulusevski of Tottenham Hotspur will miss several months after knee surgery. The surgery comes as a result of an injury sustained during Tottenham’s recent 2-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace. Dejan Kulusevski will be unavailable for the fast-approaching Europa League final against Manchester United. This latest injury, as it turns out, packs a huge punch for the team.
Ange Postecoglou, the head coach of Kulusevski’s club Tottenham, confirmed the extent of his absence. Though Matinez had said the surgery wasn’t urgent, it will still keep the Swedish international out for at least three months. At first, it seemed that the injury was not as bad as first feared but Postecoglou said, “Obviously disappointing news. In the beginning, we didn’t think it was that serious. When it continued to increase the following day, only then did we understand that there was something very bad happening.
Kulusevski’s injury piles on the misfortune for Tottenham as they enter a tough stretch of crucial matches in their season. Postecoglou expressed frustration over the injury situation within the squad, saying, “We just haven’t had a smooth run of things. Every time we look like we are getting to a place where we are looking in decent shape squad-wise, invariably we’ve been hit (by injuries).”
With Kulusevski now out with injury, the future is uncertain. On the injury front, Lucas Bergvall has resumed training following his ankle sprain last month but is still a few weeks away from game action. Postecoglou very deliberately shone the spotlight on just how important these players are to the balance of the squad. He held others accountable to step up in their absence.
As the team prepares for the Europa League final, Postecoglou remains optimistic about their chances despite the setbacks. We’re certainly planning to enjoy our victory at tomorrow’s game. We hope you’ll join us in putting together a winning team that will do the work needed to change the world! He encouraged his players to view this as an opportunity: This represents a significant challenge for the players. It’s their opportunity to illustrate the depth of their talent and win a ticket to the main event next weekend.
