In Selangor, Malaysia, a shooting incident at Setia City Mall on Saturday night has triggered an intense manhunt for the suspect, identified as a local man in his 30s with a history of criminal activity. The suspect fired multiple shots, injuring a cleaner and causing chaos among mall-goers. Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 10:50 p.m. as the suspect moved through different floors of the mall, continuing to fire his weapon.
The suspect first targeted a cleaner upon entering the shopping mall, firing four shots and injuring him in his legs and buttocks. The wounded cleaner managed to get help and was subsequently rushed to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect continued his rampage, moving to another floor and discharging additional shots.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic. A 20-year-old beauty store employee recounted her terrifying experience as she heard more than five gunshots from about 40 meters away.
"I heard more than five gunshots. Each time I heard one, I ran, terrified that I might come face to face with the suspect," she said.
The incident unfolded quickly, catching many by surprise. Uyun Ridhwan, a supervisor at a nearby fitness center, also shared her account of the night's events.
"As we were about to close, my staff and I suddenly heard a gunshot, which we initially thought was something falling,” Ridhwan stated.
Selangor police officers recovered over ten bullet casings, found scattered across various locations within the mall, including stairwells and parking areas. The gunfire also shattered a glass stairwell window and a sliding door, further contributing to the sense of panic.
In a dramatic turn, the suspect held a driver at gunpoint in a Perodua Ativa vehicle and fired a shot that struck the car. The driver has since filed a police report. According to Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, the suspect commandeered the vehicle and directed the driver to drop him off near the Pandamaran exit of the Kesas Expressway.
“The suspect then turned his attention towards another car, a Perodua Ativa, which stopped, and held the driver at gunpoint,” Hussein explained.
The mall shooting quickly gained traction on social media platforms such as Reddit, with images and eyewitness videos circulating widely. The police have launched an intensive search for the suspect, who is known to have 11 prior criminal records.
