McIlroy Celebrates Career Grand Slam Ahead of PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy’s never been more famous, powerful or at the top of his sport. Only last month he completed his career Grand Slam with a commanding win at the Masters. The five-time major champion turned up at Quail Hollow Club last week prior to the PGA Championship. In closing, he reiterated all that he’d accomplished and spread his enthusiasm for what lay ahead. At 36 years young, he has crossed off one of the few black marks on his golfing bingo card. He labored towards this end for more than a decade!

After years of striving for the elusive Masters title, McIlroy broke down in tears as he sank the winning putt during a sudden-death playoff at Augusta National. This victory there was the peak of an obsession that went 20 years and had obsessed him for decades.

That was a dream as a child, to be the best player in the world and win all the majors. I’ve done that,” McIlroy stated. This statement perfectly crystallizes the sense of emotional burdens lifted from his shoulders after delivering on what most people considered an impossible dream.

Focus on Enjoyment Over Numbers

With the career Grand Slam now in his rearview mirror, McIlroy appears to be done with pursuing specific numbers. He intends to reap the rewards of his hard work and fitfully welcome the last chapter of his professional life. “I feel like I sort of burdened myself with the career Grand Slam stuff, and I want to enjoy this,” he explained.

The golfer wanted to make new memories without the burden of expectations holding him back. “If I can just try to get the best out of myself each and every week, I know what my abilities are. I know the golf that I can play,” he said. He is passionate in his conviction that focusing on individual craft is the key to achieving greatness. This belief, Ikao admits, is especially powerful during major tournaments.

I’ve always said I’m not going to put a number on it, McIlroy continued, making clear his desire for an approach focused more on improvement than numbers.

A Special Connection with Quail Hollow

McIlroy has had as much success at Quail Hollow as any player in the tournament’s storied history. This knowledge of the track has him filled with confidence entering the PGA Championship where he is seeking to finally grab a major victory. He views this stage as an important stepping stone in his career. He is most excited about using his long, deep connection to it.

“That’s a very cool thing. I want to still create a lot of other highlights and high points, but I’m not sure if any other win will live up to what happened a few weeks ago,” he remarked, indicating that while he cherishes his past victories, he remains eager for what lies ahead.

McIlroy is already preparing for his next. He knows how tough it will be going forward, but that being said, he definitely believes that his future in this sport is bright. “I have achieved everything that I’ve wanted – I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do in the game,” he said, reaffirming his perspective on success.
