Meta is making strategic moves to expand its presence in India by establishing a new engineering hub in Bengaluru, the country’s renowned tech hub. This development comes as Meta seeks to fill 41 job openings in the city, a small fraction of its more than 1,700 global job postings. Historically, Meta has concentrated its engineering roles in North America and Europe, making this initiative notable as it shifts some focus toward India.
The new center in Bengaluru will be part of Meta's Enterprise Engineering team. The company is currently hiring for various positions, many of which were advertised over the last month. These roles are primarily divided between software or machine learning engineer positions and positions focused on designing chips for Meta's data centers. A Meta spokesperson in India confirmed that the company is recruiting for a "small number of engineering positions in Bengaluru."
A crucial role in this expansion is the recruitment of an "experienced Engineering Director to build and lead our engineering team in India," as cited in a Meta job advertisement. This director will be tasked with designing strategies to hire and construct foundational engineering teams while also creating "a vision for engineer teams in India." The director's responsibilities will be pivotal in shaping the future of Meta's engineering endeavors in the region.
Meta's existing offices in India, including locations in Hyderabad, Gurgaon, New Delhi, and Mumbai, have fewer job openings predominantly for non-engineering roles. This marks a significant shift as Bengaluru becomes a focal point for engineering talent within the company. This move aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's earlier statement that Meta aims to backfill positions cut during recent layoffs attributed to what the company termed "low performers."
