Meta has unveiled a new video editing application named Edits, marking a significant entry into the creative tools market. This announcement follows the recent removal of ByteDance's popular video editing app, CapCut, from Apple's App Store and Google Play Store, creating a timely opportunity for Meta. Edits promises to be more than just a video editing app; it offers a full suite of creative tools designed to cater to users passionate about creating videos on their phones.
The app is set to launch next month on iOS, with an Android version to follow shortly thereafter. Edits will feature a dedicated tab for inspiration and another to keep track of early ideas, enhancing the creative process from conception to execution. Users can expect all the standard editing tools found in a typical video editing app, but with added features like a higher quality camera for recording videos, setting it apart from competitors.
"Edits is more than a video editing app, it’s a full suite of creative tools," said Adam Mosseri.
Users will also be able to share drafts with friends and other creators, fostering a collaborative environment. For those who choose to share their videos on Instagram, Edits will provide powerful insights on video performance, offering valuable feedback for creators looking to expand their reach and impact.
"Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators," stated Adam Mosseri.
As Meta is the parent company of Instagram, Edits is designed to seamlessly integrate with the platform, giving users an enhanced experience when sharing their content. This strategic move appears to be a direct response to the void left by CapCut's absence from the app stores. By introducing Edits, Meta aims to capture the attention of creators looking for robust video editing solutions on mobile devices.
