Millie Bobby Brown, the celebrated star of the Netflix series "Stranger Things," opened up about her social challenges in a candid interview with Vanity Fair. Brown, who joined the hit series at just 11 years old, shared that she lacks many close friendships due to the unique circumstances of her upbringing on set. The now 20-year-old actress admitted that growing up while being privately tutored left her with limited social skills and difficulties relating to peers her age.
"I don't have many friends, because of who I am. I didn't go to school, so I don't have the best social skills when it comes to people my own age and friendships." – Millie Bobby Brown
Brown's situation was further complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which isolated her even more from her co-stars like Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, and Sadie Sink. Despite these challenges, she has found solace in other ventures outside acting. Millie runs an animal rescue center called Joey's Friends, located on her farm in Georgia, where she applies her passion for veterinary studies.
"I'm able to treat wounds, take their pulse, moderate blood pressure, things like that. I do all their medical records myself." – Millie Bobby Brown
Brown's commitment to animal welfare is evident as she takes classes in veterinary studies to enhance her hands-on involvement with the animals. She recently acquired an ultrasound machine to assist in scanning animals for pregnancies, showcasing her dedication to improving their well-being.
While reflecting on her journey, Brown acknowledged that her own identity confusion during adolescence mirrored the experiences of her character, Eleven, particularly in scenes depicting her close relationship with her adoptive father, Hopper. Her personal growth and understanding have been deeply intertwined with her role on "Stranger Things."
In addition to her professional and personal endeavors, Millie Bobby Brown shares her life with her husband, Jake Bongiovi. Despite the challenges she faces socially, Brown continues to evolve and adapt, finding new ways to express herself and connect with the world around her.
