Neptune, a new short form social media platform for content creators, has been causing quite a splash as a potential TikTok alternative. Ashley Darling, a former talent director at OPTYX agency and the founder of Neptune. This diverse foundation is what sets this platform apart in the realm of social networking—from the start, they’ve focused on content and user interests over followers and likes. The platform is still in beta mode and will be released on the App Store next week. It aims to be publicly available through the Google Play Store in roughly six months.

Neptune differentiates itself by allowing creators to hide their overall follower count and likes. This intentional design helps to create a culture where real, meaningful connections thrive instead of focus on meaningless metrics. “We put the power back in the hands of [the creators] who actually built the internet. Not the corporations, not the algorithms. Neptune is for connection, not clout,” said Timur Tugberk, a spokesperson for the platform.

The platform’s unique vertical feed with its short video swiping allows for a fast-paced, immersive exploration of content with easy commenting engagement. One of its most impressive features is known as “Hop Back.” This allows learners to immediately return to the point they exited in their videos, streamlining their experience and increasing retention.

Ashley Darling expressed her motivation behind creating Neptune: “I spent years working with independent creators, both as an influencer myself and later helping brands.” This experience has, in part, influenced her vision for Neptune. She envisions it as a retreat where creators can find their footing without the onus of performative popularity stakes.

Neptune’s recommendation algorithm immediately presents content most suited to user tastes. Most importantly, it guarantees that only the very best videos receive the exposure they rightfully earn. This controversial strategy has drawn a ton of national attention. All 970 testers have been actively engaged in the beta testing phase and there are over 400,000 people on the waitlist clamoring to get onto the new platform.

Neptune’s first beta has already attracted the attention of hundreds of thousands of new users.
