Nvidia releases first quarter earnings for fiscal year 2026 after the bell on Wednesday. So everyone is waiting to see how its new GB200 NVL72 hardware performs. The first quarter of Nvidia’s fiscal year ended on April 27, and analysts expect this report to provide critical insights into the company’s performance amid challenges in the semiconductor industry.
Cook, the senior equity strategist at Zacks Investment Research, has been following Nvidia for a decade. He stated that the GB200 NVL72 hardware rollout was key to the company’s long-term success. Nvidia began shipping these units in February. Each unit provides a state-of-the-art exascale computing capability, for $3 million. With a sales target of 10,000 units, that can still create an impressive revenue of $30 billion. This growth potential has made it the frequent target of activist shareholders and analysts alike.
Cook acknowledged that Nvidia’s forecast depends on the GB200 NVL72 units performing well. He stated, “If Jensen [Huang] says we are going to deliver 10,000 units in Q2, the street will be very impressed.” He cautioned against overly high expectations by projecting that Nvidia will sell fewer than 5,000 units.
Providing the backdrop for this earnings report is the remarkable volatility of Nvidia’s rocket like stock trajectory. Its corporate market cap has lost an incomprehensible $600 billion in value as competition from DeepSeek has spread. This upheaval caused investors to cut their delivery forecasts for Nvidia’s chips in half after a disastrous month in late January.
In addition to hardware sales, Nvidia’s recent announcement regarding Stargate’s new project in the Middle East is expected to bolster its position in international markets. Despite potential new U.S. chip export restrictions hanging over its head, Cook defended Nvidia by saying the chipmaker isn’t having a hard time identifying customers around the world. He remarked, “We basically had a flash crash, and it’s right back up,” reflecting the resilience of the company’s market presence despite these challenges.
As investors prepare for Nvidia’s earnings report, the focus remains on the GB200 NVL72 units and how they will shape the company’s future revenue. Analysts and stakeholders will be keenly observing Nvidia’s commentary on sales performance and market strategies in light of ongoing industry dynamics.
