A disturbing incident unfolded on Friday when Ahmad Nor Al Faizan Jusoh, 47, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a noodle stall in a bustling Malaysian market. Ahmad, who has learning difficulties and carries a Malaysian Department of Social Welfare card confirming his disability, faced a brutal assault instead of receiving help. The attack, which involved smearing oily noodles on his face and kicking him, was captured on video, sparking widespread outrage across the nation.
The incident occurred in a crowded market area, where Ahmad attempted to clean himself with rainwater after the crash. Despite needing assistance, he was met with hostility from several individuals, including a noodle vendor. They attacked him viciously, with one suspect kicking Ahmad in the face. The video's circulation over the weekend has prompted national debate regarding the treatment of vulnerable individuals in Malaysia.
Public anger surged not only towards the assailants but also towards the bystanders who failed to intervene. The lack of assistance Ahmad received during the incident has raised questions about societal attitudes toward people with disabilities. The footage has drawn attention to the broader issue of how vulnerable members of society are treated within the community.
In response to the public outcry, authorities swiftly took action. Kemaman Acting District Police Chief Wan Muhamad Wan Ja’afar confirmed multiple arrests related to the case.
"So far, four men have been arrested, including three men aged between 18 and 60, on the day of the incident to assist in the investigation," Wan Muhamad Wan Ja’afar stated.
The latest arrest occurred on Sunday evening, involving a man in his 30s. The police are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served for Ahmad.
