Acclaimed actor Pierre Png is set to embark on a new journey as he joins Gold 905's morning show alongside DJs Vernetta Lopez and Mike Kasem. Starting January 20, the 51-year-old actor will co-host every Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. onwards. The show airs daily from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Png, best known for his roles in the sitcom Phua Chu Kang and the film Crazy Rich Asians, emphasizes that this venture into radio does not signal the end of his acting career.
Png's illustrious career spans over 25 years, earning him accolades such as Best Actor at the Star Awards 2014 and the Asian Television Award in 2015. Known for his dynamic roles and dedication to his craft, Png is not one to "sit still and wait for things to land on [his] lap." His decision to explore radio was influenced by a desire to diversify his talents and seize new opportunities.
"This opportunity came knocking on my door and my managers thought it'll be good to try something new… Plus, I have fond memories growing up listening to the different radio stations."
Png's transition to radio is a step towards broadening his horizons while maintaining his passion for acting. He is currently involved in a production project and continuously seeks opportunities for personal growth.
"Right now, I'm working on a production… I'm always looking for opportunities to better myself."
In addition to hosting, Png plans to bring his love for music and cinema to the airwaves. He enjoys blending soundtracks with iconic movie lines, citing Bruce Springsteen's "Secret Garden" from Jerry Maguire as an example of his creative approach.
"I would play soundtracks featured in movies with famous lines from the actors mixed into the song. Like Secret Garden by Bruce Springsteen in Jerry Maguire!"
Married to former actress Andrea DeCruz, Png's personal life is as vibrant as his professional one. Despite this new role in radio, he remains committed to his first love—acting—ensuring fans that he will continue to grace both screens and airwaves.
