Pinterest Takes Action Against AI-Generated Content

Pinterest recently rolled out some pretty cool environmental action. This shift is meant to address user backlash over the growing prevalence of AI-generated and AI-edited images on its platform. The company says it will start rolling out labeling for this type of content, making it easier for users to spot AI-influenced Pins.

Coming soon, it will be easier for users to label AI-generated and AI-modified images. You’ll find this option in the three-dot menu located at the bottom right of each Pin! Pinterest is taking action after months of protests from its users. Fed up with navigating through cookie cutter junk, commonly referred to as “AI slop,” these users are taking to the platform and calling for an improved user experience.

We’ve all seen—or in recent days, felt—the impact of an increasing amount of low-quality content. This trend is most notable in other creative categories such as beauty and art, which are currently incubators for AI-generated content. Pinterest has introduced a more robust new labeling system. This effort is one piece of a larger plan to drive user empowerment by arming users with the tools fortune’s wheel.

Pinterest is introducing a general “see fewer” option on Pinterest. This will allow users to reduce the amount of AI-generated content they encounter across certain categories.
