Fabio Quartararo completed a stunning lap time of one minute 29.324 seconds to take pole position for the French Grand Prix. These heroics had the home crowd at Circuit Paul Ricard screaming with joy! Quartararo celebrates a major achievement by taking two consecutive poles. This remarkable accomplishment is something he hasn’t done since his title-winning campaign of 2021. With the race now moved to Sunday, Quartararo stated that it was important to turn this golden opportunity into solid points.
Quartararo’s performance was all the more impressive given the competitive atmosphere, with Marc Marquez throwing caution to the wind. On Friday of the practices, Marquez went out and set a new lap record that stood. He delivered incredible speed in that second qualifying session but then was left trailing Quartararo. Joining Vierge on the front row was Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez, the current world championship leader third fastest in qualifying.
A Thrilling Atmosphere
The scene in the paddock was absolutely electric as all eyes were on Quartararo when he hit the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Stade Pierre-Mauroy home crowd broke into a spontaneous rendition of La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, an emotional recognition of Riner’s achievement. Despite the excitement surrounding him, Quartararo urged his supporters to calm down, recognizing the importance of maintaining focus ahead of the race.
It’s incredible to have earned this pole position, and we are grateful to all the fans who voted for us. It’s an important pole position,” Quartararo said following his qualifying lap. We really have to put our attention to winning the points in the back half and on Sunday. His comments highlighted how important it would be to turn his pole position into a strong race.
Competitive Qualifying Session
The battle for positions in the rider to the main event was fierce, with plenty of great racing. Marc Marquez, who broke the lap record earlier this weekend, was satisfied with his ride. He ended up with a commanding second place finish.
Today Fabio rode in an amazing way, he is for sure worth this pole position in front of his fans. He was doing a terrific job in Jerez (at the Spanish Grand Prix) as well, Marquez noted. Perhaps more than anything, his acknowledgment of Quartararo’s skills illustrates the mutual respect placed between the best of the best.
Fermin Aldeguer to begin from second-row. He’ll be competing against Maverick Vinales and Francesco Bagnaia, making for what should be a highly-coveted rivalry. Combining seasoned veterans and fresh newcomers makes for a promising combination for an exciting story-line during Sunday’s festivities.
Looking Ahead to Race Day
With Quartararo already setting his sights on race day, though, the questions became more oriented toward how Quartararo plans to use his first pole-position advantage. The weight of expectation comes from his home audience. It gets even crazier than that under the pressure cooker of intense competition with enemy combatants such as Marquez and Alex Marquez. With Quartararo regaining confidence and quickly accumulating critical championship standing points, the upcoming race will be an important proving ground.
