Revolut to Launch Mobile Plans in UK and Germany This Year

Revolut, the fast-growing financial technology company best known for its digital banking alternatives, isn’t done growing. This year, it will bring the mobile bet to the United Kingdom and Germany. This decision marks a huge step forward in Revolut’s grand plan. It wants to keep diversifying its product line and provide a better user experience by combining services under one roof. The firm has not announced any of its operating partners. It has announced enough for these partners to span several key markets, indicating that it’s deepening its telecommunications reach.

The new mobile plans will be embedded natively into the Revolut app itself. This allows users to control their entire banking and mobile experience in one integrated hub. This integration aligns with Revolut’s larger strategy to offer wide-ranging financial services outside of what a traditional bank offers. Users can now redeem a new exclusive benefit by using points earned through Revolut’s loyalty program. Customers can redeem these rewards to cover costs of their phone plans, motivating further interaction with the app.

Details of the Mobile Plans

Revolut’s first offerings will include different data allowances – customized for UK and German users. These UK mobile plans come with a whopping 20GB roaming allowance. This loophole exists on both sides of the Atlantic. German customers will be able to look forward to a much richer offer, including 40GB of EU roaming. This focus on roaming capabilities is a sign that the company really gets what users need in this new, more mobile world.

Hadi Nasrallah, general manager of Telco at Revolut, emphasized the goal of these mobile services. They’re designed to cater to the demands of today’s consumers who desire more flexibility and connectivity when they travel. We intentionally chose to operate in these two markets as a starting point. Together, both countries represent some of the largest opportunities for growth in the global telecommunications market.

Integration with Existing Services

Revolut’s move into mobile is an extension of its successful eSIM launch last year. To the delight of many, customers can now easily hop from one network to the next. This digital banking feature is a great convenience for users, but it’s allowed for Revolut to offer a more competitive user experience against this massive, growing channel. To do so, the company outlined a plan to maximize its existing infrastructure. This will improve experiences for underserved users who rely on financial services, fintech apps, and advanced communication services.

Antoine Le Nel, Revolut’s chief growth and marketing officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation by stating, “Revolut does things above and beyond money.” Through their products, they strive to be more than a financial service provider. Our mission is to enrich the day-to-day communications and connections of our users.

Future Expansion Plans

Revolut, meanwhile, is making its international mobile debut with releases in the UK and Germany. They’re as excited as we are to take these new offerings to additional markets this fall, so stay tuned! The company knows that the mobile telecommunications industry is evolving. This move follows a 2021 decision when, after leaving the EU, the UK no longer required UK mobile operators to comply with EU regulations.

It has made it easier for non-traditional players to enter the mobile market, allowing them to be more innovative and customer-focused. Brussels’ Tomaso Duso, a former contributor to the European Commission, pointed to high barriers to entry for the EU market. He added, “It’s nearly impossible to get into as an MNO, because access is highly controlled and new spectrum licenses are almost never granted. He emphasized that for non-traditional players, the barrier to entry to the market is quite low because they can join the mobile space through MVNOs. They can automatically lease capacity from other networks, which makes it easier for them to not invest in their own infrastructure.

This regulatory environment should help to play into Revolut’s hands as it looks to establish its brand identity and differentiate itself from more established mobile competitors.
