A Singaporean couple faced harassment by three Indonesian teenagers during a visit to Bandung, West Java, on December 31. The couple captured the unsettling encounter on video as they strolled along a street in Bandung City, only to be trailed by the teens. The video, once shared online, quickly drew public attention, compelling law enforcement to investigate the matter. Despite the incident's visibility, the couple decided against pursuing legal action when one of the victims accepted a public apology from the teenagers, leading to the cessation of the police investigation.
The incident unfolded when the couple recorded themselves, unwittingly documenting their harassment by the three teenagers. The video, which described the woman as being "molested in Indonesia by Indonesian men," spread rapidly across social media platforms. This prompted an official inquiry led by Police Chief Budi Sartono. Speaking to reporters, Budi Sartono confirmed that the incident had been reported and was under investigation.
In a turn of events, the couple opted for a compassionate resolution over legal retribution. The police investigation ceased after one of the victims accepted an apology from the teenagers on social media. Police Chief Budi Sartono addressed the media regarding this development.
“The victim has confirmed that she will not continue the legal process into the case as she saw the perpetrators had apologised on social media and thought this would serve as a lesson as the perpetrators are children,” – Budi Sartono
The video and its dissemination brought significant media coverage, highlighting both the incident and its resolution. By choosing not to pursue legal action, the couple likely influenced public perception, emphasizing understanding and forgiveness over legal penalties.
