Elaine Claire, a 33-year-old entrepreneur from Singapore, expressed her enthusiasm for Donald Trump's potential return to the White House. Her sentiments reflect a broader trend among Singaporeans, as a recent survey revealed a significant level of support for Trump among the populace. The survey, which gathered opinions from various age groups, found that individuals aged 50 to 59 demonstrated the highest support, with almost 80% backing the former US president.
The survey results, released on Wednesday, highlighted that nearly 70% of respondents across different age groups believed a Trump presidency would be beneficial for Singapore. David Black, founder of the market research firm that conducted the survey, noted that respondents found Trump's "leader of action" traits particularly appealing. This perception of strong leadership resonated deeply with many, especially those in the 50-59 age bracket.
"Trump rails against a lot of recent social trends, sometimes characterised as ‘woke’." – David Black
More traditional Singaporeans seem to relate to Trump's pushback against certain social trends. Black highlighted that this appeal is especially strong among those aged between 50 and 60. This demographic's inclination towards traditional values aligns with their preference for Trump's assertive style and policy decisions.
Elaine Claire also highlighted Trump's decisive actions, such as his order to delay the ban on the popular Chinese app TikTok, as evidence of his leadership capabilities.

Despite these insights into support levels and leadership appeal, the survey did not delve into the underlying values of the Singaporean respondents. This omission leaves some questions unanswered about the deeper motivations behind the support for Trump. Nonetheless, the survey's findings underscore a clear appreciation for his leadership qualities among a significant portion of Singaporeans.
