Almost 70 percent of Singaporeans across various age groups believe that a Trump presidency would be positive for the nation, according to a recent survey conducted by a market research firm. Released on Wednesday, the findings highlight the appeal of Trump's leadership traits, particularly his reputation as a "leader of action." Notably, the greatest support comes from Singaporeans aged 50 to 59, with nearly 80 percent expressing favorable views.
The survey underscores that the perception of Trump as a decisive leader resonates among Singaporeans. His decision to delay the ban on TikTok, a popular Chinese app, was cited as a testament to his leadership style. For many, this exemplified his ability to take swift action on complex issues, a quality that respondents found appealing.
David Black, founder of the market research firm, noted that traditional values play a significant role in shaping opinions.
"Trump rails against a lot of recent social trends, sometimes characterised as ‘woke’," said David Black. "More traditional Singaporeans relate to aspects of this pushback, especially those between 50 and 60."
The survey's results indicate a broad spectrum of support across different age groups, but the age bracket of 50 to 59 years old showed the highest level of endorsement. This group sees Trump's leadership style as aligning with their preference for pragmatic and action-oriented governance.
Elaine Claire, a 33-year-old entrepreneur in Singapore, also expressed enthusiasm for Trump's potential return to the White House. She views him as a strong leader capable of effecting positive change, echoing the sentiments of many respondents who appreciate Trump's proactive approach to leadership.
Despite the positive reception of Trump's leadership traits, the survey did not delve into the underlying values or reasons behind these views. However, it clearly illustrates that across generations, Singaporeans recognize and appreciate Trump’s decisive and action-driven style.
