Slate Auto has been turning heads since it hit the streets! They hit that milestone of 100K refundable reservations for their new electric truck just two weeks after its public reveal. The firm announced the autonomous vehicle at a launch event in Los Angeles, California. Soon after that, they made an impressive victory over the weekend one step further. Slate recently came out of stealth mode a few weeks ago. They’re on track to disrupt the nascent electric vehicle market with their own, highly ambitious, “decidedly anti-Tesla” plan.
The electric truck will be competitively priced as well, starting under $20,000 after the application of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. Interested customers can pre-order the truck and queue up their order with a fully refundable $50 fee. Jeremy Snyder, Slate’s chief commercial officer, thanked backers for the sudden rush of interest from future customers.
“We are incredibly grateful to America for their support of Slate’s brand debut and the debut of our truck,” Snyder said. We are very much looking forward to the future now in store.
Slate intends to produce its trucks at a soon-to-be-renovated former printing plant in Warsaw, Indiana. The facility has the production capacity to build up to 150,000 vehicles annually by the end of 2027. With this strategic location, the company anticipates improving efficiency and providing additional capacity to support the company’s aggressive growth plans.
Slate has officially released its first analog electric pickup truck to the world. This strategic decision places them in direct competition with established players in a highly crowded market. Then the company does something unique to attract consumers in an increasingly competitive environment. It provides a smart, economical option in the growing electric vehicle segment.
Slate has been building up steam since going public with their brand and unveiling their prototype truck. Industry watchers will be watching closely to see how the company addresses production challenges and finds acceptance in the market. With the clear initial interest shown via reservations already in hand, Slate seems like it could be on pace for an interesting entry into the automotive world.
