Sora Ma Remembers Her Late Husband Through Home Renovation and Artistry

Sora Ma, a 41-year-old mother, is opening the doors to her newly renovated home, a space filled with memories of her late husband, an artistic genius whose legacy remains a prominent influence in her life. After losing him over six months ago while she was pregnant with their son, Skye, Sora embarked on a home renovation project that not only transformed her living space but also served as a heartfelt tribute to the love they shared.

In the early days of their relationship, Sora's husband praised her painting skills "to the sky." This encouragement inspired her creative journey and deepened their bond. As she reflects on their time together, Sora recalls the moment she recognized her husband's artistic prowess when she witnessed him paint. Their shared love for art became a cornerstone of their relationship.

Over a span of two to three weeks, Sora meticulously sourced everything needed for her home renovation. She enlisted the help of an interior designer to manage the major tasks, ensuring that each detail resonated with their shared aesthetic. The living room is now a serene uniform white, featuring a plush sofa and a workspace integrated into wall cabinets, allowing for both comfort and functionality.

Sora opted not to research any specific theme for her home, focusing instead on a personal touch that reflected her family's history. An essential part of this history is the thousands of vinyl records belonging to her late husband, proudly displayed in her living room. "He had loved buying vinyl records since he was a teenager," Sora shared, indicating the significance of these items in keeping his memory alive.

In the bathroom, Sora incorporated gold fixtures, including a striking gold sink adorned with intricate carvings. Finding the right pieces required extensive searching through multiple stores, but Sora was determined. "Actually my husband was the one who took a liking to this basin," she noted, emphasizing how important it was for her to include elements he cherished in their home.

The hallway features a giant painting titled "An Unfinished Painting," which Sora and her husband began together. The artwork symbolizes not only their joint effort but also the unfinished business Sora feels in her life following his passing. "I still have a lot of unfinished business, and this is one of them," she stated, revealing the deep emotional ties that art and home renovations hold for her.

Sora expressed gratitude for the support she received from friends and family during her pregnancy. Their assistance has been invaluable, as she navigates motherhood while honoring her husband's memory. "A lot of the time, you have to mix your husband's opinion in," she remarked, reflecting on how his influence continues to guide her decisions.

As Sora looks to the future, she remains committed to preserving her husband's legacy for their son. "Although he has passed on, I think I will still keep the things that should be kept for him," she said. Furthermore, she hopes that one day she can share with Skye the stories behind his father's favorite things: "Maybe when our child is older, I would have to tell him what kind of things his Daddy liked previously."
