Lois Boisson, a young French tennis player, recently generated some cheeky outrage. When British player Harriet Dart tweeted in disgust at the pervasive body odour during their match, the instance and response went viral. The incident caused a huge uproar over social media, particularly following the out-of-the-box yet classic social media response from Boisson.
It happened during the first round of a match in which Boisson won against Dart 6-0, 6-3. Facing darting strokes, during the match, Boisson’s opponent bulls-eyed her discomfort to the umpire, asking that Boisson apply underarm deodorant. Even so, the broadcast graciously captured the moment. Dart was clearly exasperated when she made her issue known while down in the match.
Faced with this bizarre reality, Lois Boisson decided to have some fun on social media. On Instagram, she shared a photoshopped shot of her mid-serve, comically holding onto a can of deodorant. The tweet that tagged Dove ended with a call for a “much-needed collab.” It served to showcase her great artistry in approaching the moment with levity.
Harriet Dart’s Apology
After the match, Harriet Dart received a lot of backlash for her Twittering comments. She subsequently expressed regret for spilling the beans about her personal opinion that Boisson “stinks pretty bad.” She knew she had gone too far with her comments.
“It’s not the way I want to behave and I take full responsibility,” – Harriet Dart
Dart’s comments did not just galvanize fans, but his fellow players. Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios weighed in on the public health effect. He described Dart’s comment as “wild,” noting just how out of left field her comments were during the tournament.
Social Media Reaction
The reaction on social media was mixed, with most of her fans commending Boisson for her savage reply. She deftly changed what could have been an awkward guest faux pas into a charming segment. This unique talent showcased both her fiery spirit and her heart as an athlete. The clash between the two players led to larger conversations about sportsmanship and the pressure athletes are under in tense competitions.
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has so far made no public comment regarding this attempted abduction. In the meantime, Reuters’ questions have been left unaddressed. The absence of a formal response raises questions about how these issues are viewed inside the world of professional tennis.
