Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra Set for Official Visit to Cambodia

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will make an official visit to Cambodia, Wednesday-April 23. This visit will be particularly notable, as it coincides with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cambodia. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the visit. This further underscores the importance of the relationship to deepen connections between the two countries.

During the visit, Paetongtarn Shinawatra will jointly chair a ceremony to launch the official logo commemorating this milestone in Thai-Cambodian relations. The ceremony is planned to happen at the Prime Minister’s Office in Phnom Penh.

Other than presiding over the logo launch, the Thai Prime Minister will lead a tight schedule of courtesy calls and bilateral meetings. He’ll be sitting down with some of the most important folks, including Senate Speaker and President of the Privy Council Hun Sen, and President of the National Assembly Khuon Sodary. During this initial diplomatic engagement, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni will receive Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The full agenda of the visit reportedly includes a full-delegation meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. We’ll deepen collaboration between public, private and civic sectors. We hope our discussions will lead to improved security, border management, economic development, and enhanced overall bilateral relations. Finally, the leaders seek to foster greater people-to-people ties between the citizens of each country.

This will be Prime Minister’s first official visit to Cambodia. It’s an important element of the celebration originally planned to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cambodia, announced Jirayu, a senior government spokesperson from Thailand.

The visit carries strategic significance as it aims to strengthen the age-old friendship and cooperation that exists between Thailand and Cambodia. In doing so, both leaders hope to tackle urgent challenges and open the door to additional avenues for shared prosperity and collaboration.
