Tinder CEO Faye Iosotaluno to Depart in July After Less Than a Year

In a move that surprised most observers, Tinder Chief Executive Faye Iosotaluno announced she would resign from the company’s top post in July. Her tenure ended in less than a year. Iosotaluno explained her decision in a recent LinkedIn post. She looked back on her journey with the agency and shared her goals for the future. Responding to our farewell, she posted on Tinder’s blog to say how “thankful” she was for her time there. The organization’s exploitive tech is owned by Match Group.

Match Group has in recent weeks generated headlines with its announcement of a 13% cut in personnel among its various brands—including Tinder. The layoffs are an effort to save money and simplify execution and decision-making inside the company. According to Bloomberg, most of those cuts were at Tinder. This deepens fears that the company has lost its way and questions the leadership’s long-term viability.

Iosotaluno further explained her views on the rapidly changing consumer tech environment in her LinkedIn post. She touched on how this evolution has been a perfect fit for her goals. She added, “The consumer tech landscape is definitely changing in amazing, unexpected ways — and so are my dreams.” Her statement signals her willingness to build on her success and focus on the bigger and better things that await her outside of federal government.

Iosotaluno highlighted her goal of building more diversity and women leaders at the helm of her work moving forward. One important lesson I took from my time at Tinder, when we invite different voices into the room or decision-making process, we improve our ability to make the right decisions. Today, I’m dedicated to duplicating that advancement by supporting and empowering the next wave of women leaders, founders, and investors.

Spencer Rascoff, the former CEO of Match Group, recognized Iosotaluno’s impact while they served together. He told her how thankful he was for the time they had shared. So, over the last few months, they worked to get ready for this news to make for a likely seamless transition.

Faye Iosotaluno’s exit comes at a significant moment for Tinder and Match Group. They are in the midst of well-known industry headwinds and making some painful workforce cuts. The contractor’s new mission is to recruit her successor. This new leader will further Tinder’s commitment to innovation and inclusivity, steering the app into its next chapter.
