Former President Donald Trump is generating speculation about a potential third term by selling “Trump 2028” merchandise and receiving support from allies like Steve Bannon. Bannon predicts Trump 2024 with alarming certainty. He has a dog in the fight – a very big dog, because he believes in the successful Trump election.
The Trump Store just released a “Trump 2028” hat for $50. In addition, they have a nice red shirt with that same logo and the words “Rewrite the Rules,” for $36. These moves are viewed as a part of a larger strategy to test the waters for a third presidential run.
Bannon explained that a small group of specialists is focused on paving the way for Trump’s rematch—his third term. This ambitious resource plan would require a significant amendment to the U.S. Constitution. As it stands, the Constitution limits presidents to only two consecutive terms.
To this end, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) last week introduced a resolution in the House calling on Congress to change the constitutional framework. The proposed amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms.” This resolution was deliberately crafted to allow only Trump, but no other former presidents, to run for a third term.
In March, Trump floated the idea he would run for reelection in 2028. He hasn’t closed the door on it entirely. He raised an interesting question in May about how he would be classified if he won again: “If I win, would I be considered a three-term or two-term president?” His comments have understandably stoked 2026 campaign speculation.
Bannon has been the loudest doomsayer of all when it comes to predicting the fate of Trump’s political prospects. He confidently prophesized that Trump will retake the Oval Office on January 20, 2029. This claim bolsters the hope of some backers that their former president’s dreams are very much still in play.
“There are methods which you could do it,” – Trump
Trump’s previous electoral success, having won the presidency in 2016 and again in November 2024, adds weight to Bannon’s claims. Her road to a potential third term looks especially rocky. First, you have to get past legal challenges and rally the bipartisan support needed within Congress.
As part of the ongoing discussion about his political future, Bannon remarked on the new merchandise saying, “It’s a cool hat and I suspect it will be highly popular!” This statement is an indication of the depth of enthusiasm among Trump’s supporters for his imminent return to the political arena.
