Igor Tudor, the new Juventus manager, told reporters that he was sure of the game his team would display even after a series of unfortunate results. The 35-player squad has a lot of work ahead and is ranked fourth with two matches left this season. Tudor was adamant that they would have done even better if not for the injury bug decimating his roster. His remarks were made in the lead up to Sunday’s important home match against mid-table Udinese.
Tudor only assumed the managerial role in March, having replaced Thiago Motta. Since then he’s guided Juventus back into a record run, just one defeat in their last seven games. He addressed the obstacles the team faced during this time. They lost two games due to having ten men after red cards.
Injury Challenges
Injuries to key players have been a major obstacle for Juventus this season. Tudor pointed out key absences, stating, “It’s fair to say that we never had (Federico) Gatti and (Teun) Koopmeiners, rarely had (Andrea) Cambiaso and (Lloyd) Kelly available.” These injuries have limited the team’s effectiveness on the pitch, yet Tudor remains optimistic about their capabilities when fully fit.
Even with those disappointments, Tudor thinks that this past year’s squad demonstrated awfully well how tough they are. “For me, it was a good job given all the problems we had,” he remarked. His willingness to prioritize performance through adversity is a testament to his dedication to building a winning program.
Looking Ahead
As Juventus get ready to play Udinese on Friday, Tudor will not be distracted by talk over his future. And as UK reports indicate, that return could well be to replace former manager Antonio Conte. Tudor was quick to assuage any fears as to his own precariousness. “I live from day-to-day, I enjoy everything and I suffer,” he said, emphasizing his dedication to the present.
Tudor’s contract runs through the end of this season. Juventus do have the option to automatically extend it by another year with a Champions League qualification clause. This option turns into a requirement after July 30 if they’re eligible.
The Path Forward
Tudor’s method underlines the importance of trust and confidence among the team. He stated, “I want to feel the trust of the players and I feed on this. That’s the beauty of it. I don’t feel inferior to anyone.” With this mindset, Juventus might just be able to continue establishing itself as a fixture at the top of Italian football’s highest level.
