Uncle Roger’s restaurant, known for its signature fried rice, is set to open its first outlet in Singapore. Owned by Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, the establishment has gained popularity and will soon debut at Mid Valley Southkey mall’s basement. Although the opening date remains unannounced, the restaurant’s Instagram page hinted at the launch on February 7. Despite previous criticism regarding food quality and pricing, Uncle Roger’s restaurant continues to attract a significant following.
Nigel Ng, who rose to fame after humorously critiquing BBC Food's egg fried rice recipe, owns the restaurant. Since its inception, Uncle Roger's establishment has expanded rapidly. It currently boasts four outlets in Kuala Lumpur, with one operating 24 hours at KLIA2 airport. The Singapore outlet will be strategically positioned next to another popular eatery, Oriental Kopi, known for its constant crowd of patrons.
The decision to open in Singapore underscores the restaurant's appeal among Singaporeans. Mid Valley Southkey mall, a favored shopping destination for locals, will host the new outlet. This marks the fifth expansion for Uncle Roger's franchise within a year, illustrating its growing prominence in the culinary scene.
Despite facing some backlash over the quality of its offerings and steep prices, the restaurant maintains a strong customer base. Its social media presence and celebrity owner have contributed significantly to its popularity, driving curiosity and anticipation for the brand's latest venture.
