Usyk and Dubois Set for Undisputed Title Showdown at Wembley

Oleksandr Usyk, the undefeated heavyweight champion, is set to face Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium in London on July 19. With a career record of 23-0, Usyk is the reigning WBC, WBA and WBO champion. This fight presents an opportunity for him to make history again by becoming four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion for the second time.

Daniel Dubois, 27, is in possession of the IBF title after being upgraded to the belt following Usyk’s vacating of it in 2022. Dubois’ last defense of this title was against Anthony Joshua’s hands last September. When the two fighters fought in Wroclaw, Poland in August 2023, they were evenly matched competitors. Usyk won a much-discussed knockout in the ninth round. The game couldn’t have been more dramatic. The referee stopped the fight at one point to allow Usyk—intentional or not—a large low blow to continue after Usyk regained his breath by being hit there.

A Historic Opportunity for Usyk

Usyk said he was thankful for the opportunity to fight for the undisputed crown again.

“I’m grateful to God for the opportunity to once again fight for the undisputed championship,” – Oleksandr Usyk.

He wants nothing more than to regain the IBF belt. In his comments before the bout, Usyk stressed his admiration for Dubois.

“Thank you, Daniel, for taking care of my IBF belt – now I want it back,” – Oleksandr Usyk.

At 38 years old, Usyk is looking to strengthen his legacy in the heavyweight division. If he does, he’ll become only the second British fighter to hold the undisputed heavyweight crown, alongside Lennox Lewis. Significantly, this productive accomplishment hasn’t occurred since 1999.

Dubois Ready for Redemption

Daniel Dubois is determined to show a different version of himself in this rematch. Confident that he’s learned his lesson after being wrongfully judged in their last meeting, he’s ready to crush the competition this go around.

“I should have won the first fight and was denied by the judgement of the referee, so I will make no mistake this time around in front of my people at the national stadium in my home city,” – Daniel Dubois.

Dubois wants to come out and show that he’s a better, more dangerous fighter. He is fully prepared to face Usyk and dethrone his championship reign. The change in opponents makes the upcoming fight even more significant to Dubois on a personal level. Beyond that, it represents another significant pivot in his career as he seeks to ascend through the heavyweight ranks.

Anticipation Builds for July 19

As fight night gets closer, excitement only grows from the media and boxing fans around the world. Both fighters have distinct advantages that could tip the fight in their direction. Usyk’s experience and tactical prowess contrast with Dubois’s youthful energy and determination.

This heavyweight title bout at Wembley Stadium could be a historic night, one that fundamentally changes the face of heavyweight boxing. Fans eagerly await what could be a defining moment for both fighters, as they strive for greatness on July 19.
