Vaibhav Suryavanshi first stole the headlines when he made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the age of just 14. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals franchises, Suryavanshi had a jaw-dropping debut. He hit a CRACKING six off the very first ball he faced! His incredible introduction to the professional game has amazed us all. Everyone is shocked not just at his age but at his crazy ability, skills and agility out there on the field.
Suryavanshi’s journey in cricket began early. At only 13 years old, he became the first player from Afghanistan to sign a contract in the highly competitive and valuable Twenty20 league of players. In 2018, the Rajasthan Royals bought him for 11 million Indian rupees, roughly $128,750. This milestone came after he made his debut in the domestic Ranji Trophy red-ball competition at the age of 12.
A Rising Star
Even prior to his debut on the IPL stage, Suryavanshi had become a sought-after name in the circuit of junior cricket. He was an integral part of India’s Under-19 side against arch-rivals Australia — scoring a blistering century in the final off just 58 balls. His every step has been scrutinized by fans and coaches alike. He’s a big fan of West Indian cricket legend Brian Lara.
In his IPL debut game coming on to the field against the Lucknow Super Giants, Suryavanshi made an immediate impact. With emerging star Yashasvi Jaiswal, he put on a breathtaking 85-run opening stand. He ended his innings with a phenomenal score of 34 runs off just 20 balls hitting two astonishing sixes. Sadly, his team lost the match by only two runs.
Coach’s Insights
Rajasthan’s spin bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule, who is also the state team’s former selector, revealed his faith in Suryavanshi’s capabilities. “It was important to give him an opportunity. He batted well in the nets, his preparation was good,” Bahutule stated. He accepted that although the team did miss their captain Sanju Samson, Suryavanshi took his chance.
Naturally we missed Sanju, it opened up an opportunity for Vaibhav and he took it with both hands. He batted magnificently, ” Bahutule said, emphasizing just how much the young player has shown he can perform in intimidating situations.
Future Prospects
This was not only Suryavanshi’s debut, but creates a path for younger players to follow in Indian cricket. With a younger age and a lot of early success, he is on track to be as important or more so to his sport.
As Suryavanshi further hones his craft and matures into a seasoned player, cricket fans will be eagerly following his journey. His journey is like inspiration for budding cricketers and illustrates the future talent, which is promising up in India’s cricketing domain.
