About European Headline
News from across Europe in short stories that are checked before they are published.
European Headline reports the news from across Europe every day: what the European Union and its institutions decide, what governments and companies do, and how markets and economies move.
It is written in English for readers in many countries. Each story is short, says what happened and why it matters, and is checked before it goes on the site.
What we cover
European Headline has seven sections:
- Europe: Governments, elections, security and society across the continent.
- Policy: The EU institutions, new laws, summits, enforcement and sanctions.
- Business: Companies and industries in Europe: results, deals, plants and strikes.
- Markets: European indices, the euro, bond yields and energy prices.
- Economy: Growth, inflation, jobs, trade, public finances and the central banks.
- Tech & Startups: European start-ups, funding, AI, chips, space and cyber security.
- Travel & Culture: Travel and tourism, rail, film, music, festivals, food and heritage.
How the stories are made
Each story starts from a report, an announcement or a press release that someone else has already published. We write our own short account of its facts, in our own words, and check the names, numbers and quotes against that report before the story is published. The editorial policy explains the checks.
Who answers for the stories
Every story carries the name of a member of the European Headline editorial team. Meet them on the team page.
European Headline reports on governments and institutions. It is not the voice of any of them.
What European Headline is not
- It is not investment, legal or tax advice. Stories report what others have said and done; they do not tell you what to buy, sell or do.
- It does not publish opinion or commentary.
- It is not an official publication of the European Union. It reports on the institutions and is not part of them.
