EU and euro area producer prices rise 1.9 per cent in August

Energy prices rose by 5.6 per cent in the euro area and 5.5 per cent across the EU compared with July.

Industrial producer prices rose by 1.9 per cent month on month in August 2026 across both the EU and the euro area, Eurostat said in its first estimates. Compared with August 2025, prices were 8.2 per cent higher in the euro area and 8.0 per cent higher across the EU. July’s monthly increases were 1.6 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively.

Energy recorded monthly price increases of 5.6 per cent for the euro area and 5.5 per cent for the EU. With energy excluded, producer prices rose by 0.2 per cent in each. On an annual basis, energy prices climbed by 21.0 per cent in the euro area and 20.7 per cent across the EU, while industry excluding energy recorded increases of 3.4 per cent and 3.3 per cent respectively.

Eurostat said every member state recorded a monthly increase. Bulgaria and Estonia had the largest rises, each at 3.3 per cent, followed by Italy at 3.1 per cent and Denmark at 3.0 per cent. Ireland led the annual increases with 17.1 per cent, ahead of Bulgaria’s 16.8 per cent and Lithuania’s 14.6 per cent. Luxembourg alone recorded an annual fall, of 7.9 per cent.

The index tracks domestic-market factory-gate selling prices and excludes imports. The figures have no seasonal or calendar-day adjustment.
