Airport network faults disrupt flights across Italy
Enav ruled out a cyber attack or sabotage as airports in Rome, Milan and Naples reported delays and cancellations.

Faults in a network carrying air traffic control data disrupted flights at Italian airports on 16 October 2026. Enav, Italy’s national air navigation service provider, said it reduced the number of aircraft that could be handled in Italian airspace from 6:00 to maintain safety.
At Rome Fiumicino, at least four departures were cancelled, with Milan Linate, Riyadh, Tirana and Trieste the affected destinations. Other flights faced delays reaching 60 minutes. Milan’s Linate and Malpensa airports and Naples Capodichino also experienced cancellations and delays.
Enav said the faults had been detected overnight, but operations continued at normal capacity until 6:00. It introduced traffic restrictions as the problems persisted and air traffic increased. The provider ruled out hacking or sabotage.
Enav said it had located the faults in the data transmission network and was investigating their causes while working to restore full operations. Airport operators advised passengers to contact their airlines to check flight status.
