FLTRD secures funding ahead of planned Belgium expansion
The food-scanning app plans to license its PureScore system to producers and retailers, with a goal of reaching 100 million users within five years.

Foodtech company FLTRD has raised over half a million euros from impact investor 4impact capital and angels in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. Co-founder Anke Kuik said the investment would fund recruitment, with expansion into Belgium planned before the end of the year.
Supermarket shoppers can use the app to scan food products, identify ultra-processed items and view alternatives presented as healthier. Its coverage spans seven supermarkets and more than 150,000 products. In the Netherlands, it has more than 35,000 users across iPhone and Android.
Its PureScore system assesses ingredients, processing methods and organic certification. Kuik said FLTRD would license the system to retailers and food producers. The company aims to have 100 million people using the score for grocery shopping within five years.
The financing comes amid European Commission work on defining ultra-processed food. The Commission requested guidance from its scientific advisers in July, with a response expected in March 2027. It has also approached Kuik for her expertise.
