Nvidia plans to invest in five UK start-ups working on artificial intelligence and quantum computing, chief executive Jensen Huang announced at an event in London. The chipmaker is understood to be taking minority stakes in the businesses.

The companies include Boltz, which uses AI for drug discovery, and Foresight, an infrastructure predictor. The other recipients are Hiverge, which develops AI logistics planning, Prima Mente, which works on AI biology, and quantum computing company Riverlane.

The UK announcement came hours after Nvidia unveiled investments in four French start-ups: healthtech company Doctolib, Entalpic in AI, Genesis AI in robotics and Pigment in enterprise software. Nvidia also announced a US$250 million donation of computing resources for AI safety and research in the UK.

Nvidia already has investments in UK companies including Wayve and Synthesia, as well as Basecamp Research and Ineffable Intelligence.

Outside the London event, Huang also addressed questions about relations between the West and China amid concerns over AI safety. He advocated continued dialogue with Chinese AI firms and researchers, saying both the United States and the UK should maintain those exchanges.
