Enact Intelligence, a Swiss robotics start-up, has unveiled its business alongside a US$30 million pre-seed funding round. The company is using the money to recruit staff and speed up hardware development and research.

Redalpine, Notion Capital and Firstminute Capital participated in the round. Individual backers include Mistral boss Arthur Mensch, former Meta AI chief scientist Yann LeCun and Thomas Wolf of Hugging Face.

Enact is developing technology for general-purpose robots. It says its approach uses force and touch sensing to improve how accurately robots handle objects, with industrial tasks and other real-world work as intended applications. That differs from approaches based on cameras and visual information.

Chief executive and co-founder Manuel Yves Galliker, who previously worked at US robotics start-up Physical Intelligence, said the robots use their actuators to sense force and touch in real time. He said Enact’s development work spans model architectures, data pipelines, actuators and sensors, with technology intended to work across different robot designs.
