Atreides Management has led a US$550 million Series E investment in Swedish legal AI company Legora, the company said. The funding values Legora at US$8.8 billion, compared with US$5.6 billion when it raised US$600 million in a Series D round six months earlier.

The Boston-based investment firm is a new backer. Other investors joining Legora include Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity, Glade Brook Capital Partners and JP Morgan. Returning investors include Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners and General Catalyst.

Legora develops AI tools that help lawyers research, review and draft legal work, competing with US-based Harvey. The company said demand was shifting from AI assistants towards agents capable of handling tasks involving several steps.

According to Legora, in-house legal teams accounted for more than 40 per cent of customers added during the third quarter. Such teams represented a small share of its customer base a year earlier. The company said the US had become its largest market.

The proceeds will support expansion in North America and its European and Asia-Pacific markets, alongside further investment in its agentic operating system, Legora said. Its North American offices are in New York, Denver, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Toronto and Mexico City.
