Citroën has unveiled an electric version of its 2CV, with sales expected to begin at the end of 2028. The city car remains a concept, with a price of around €15,000, and is among the models featured at the Paris Motor Show, running from 13 to 18 October.

Stellantis is seeking to limit costs through a weight below one tonne and a small battery suited to everyday trips. A small-van version is also a possibility. The design carries over elements of the original 2CV, including its V-shaped bonnet, round headlights and upright windscreen.

The planned sales timing would mark the original model’s 80th anniversary. Production of the earlier 2CV began in 1948 and ended in 1990, with more than five million vehicles built across its versions.

The electric revival comes as battery-powered vehicles accounted for a record 42 per cent of new registrations in France in September. Small electric cars and the state-backed social leasing programme helped drive that trend, with the leasing scheme recording around 9,500 registrations during the month.
