The EU has renewed sanctions targeting Russia but taken businessmen Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman off its sanctions list.

Bill Browder, formerly Russia’s biggest foreign investor, said sanctions were particularly damaging for Russian oligarchs. He said they were devising ways to have their names removed from sanctions lists.

Browder argued that ending the war required economic damage severe enough to prevent Russia from financing it. He called for additional sanctions against Moscow, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin was willing to let the entire country go hungry and would continue until he lacked the means to fund the war.
