Agora Labs, an Italian company developing technology for medical research, has secured €4.3 million in a round led by P101 SGR. The Mussetto family also invested. The family owns Infinite Five, a holding company with interests in marketing technology, data analysis and robotics.

The funding will support expansion in Europe and the US, as well as entry into other markets including India and the Middle East. Agora Labs plans to add around 20 people in technical and commercial roles in the coming months.

Founded in Rome by vascular surgeon and biomedical informatician Davide Zaccagnini and engineer Fabio Giulietto, Agora Labs develops systems intended to let hospitals use clinical information for research without moving it beyond their own IT infrastructure.

The company says it places computing nodes equipped with NVIDIA GPUs inside healthcare facilities. Specialised large language models organise clinical information into standardised data, while anonymisation processes are used to protect patients’ information.

Its federated AI system is designed to enable research centres and pharmaceutical companies to study data across hospitals without direct access to patient records. Models can be trained and tested within each facility, with outputs and inferences shared through the network.

Agora Labs says its international network currently includes 50 healthcare facilities and that it intends to double that number over the coming months. Zaccagnini, its founder and chief executive, said the investment would speed up network expansion and support larger international research projects.
