Database developer KineDB has secured €850,000 in a pre-seed round led by Superhero Capital. The company plans to use the money to develop its technology and expand its team, recruiting engineers with expertise in databases, storage systems and query engines.

NGL Ventures also invested, alongside angels including Cactos CTO Jussi Pyörre and Kristoffer Abell and Jakob Lilholm, the co-CEOs of Formalize, a Danish compliance company.

Founded by Axel Löwenhoff and Allan Zimmermann, KineDB is building a general-purpose database intended to work in cloud environments and on devices without internet access. Its approach uses one engine for local application data and backend infrastructure, rather than separate systems for offline and cloud operations.

The company is targeting industries with unreliable connectivity first. One potential use is underground mining, where workers could log progress or equipment conditions on mobile devices without a connection, then synchronise the records with a central database when internet access returns.

Löwenhoff said AI tools were allowing more people to create software, including developers who had not fully considered the databases their applications needed. KineDB aims to reduce that complexity. Beyond its initial offline focus, the company plans to extend the platform to serve more types of software.
